Kuwaiti physicians and dentists enrolled in residency training programs in the United States or Canada who wish to undertake sub-specialty training subsequently are requested to:

1. Submit a written request to the Office of the Embassy of the State of Kuwait, confirming the sub-specialty field and the starting date and duration of the program.

On receipt of the above information, the request will be forwarded to the Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialization (KIMS) for its consideration and approval. The sponsorship status with the universities can be confirmed only after approval is received from KIMS.

Extension of Scholarships

Scholarship missions must be renewed on an annual basis. Scholarship holders must provide the following documents and information to the office of the Embassy of the State of Kuwait in June of each year for a report to be prepared on behalf of the applicant, to be forwarded to KIMS and the Civil Service Commission (CCS) of the State of Kuwait for this purpose:

1. Confirmation of the appointment to the next level of training.
2. In-training Evaluation Reports for the current academic year.

Dentists are additionally required to provide the Embassy of the State of Kuwait with an official copy of the transcript of grades after each semester.

Participation in Conferences

Trainees who wish to attend conferences related to the specialization are requested to:

1. Provide the Embassy of the State of Kuwait with a letter from the Program Director recommending participation in the conference/course. Applicants intending to take a course or attend a conference in another country are required to obtain approval in advance from the Civil Service Commission, State of Kuwait through this office.
2. Purchase airline tickets in advance to avoid full fare charges. In case a full fare airline ticket is presented to this office for reimbursement, a letter from the university confirming that the trainee did not have sufficient time to make the necessary travel arrangements ahead of time is needed. Airline ticket stubs (not ticket invoices) should be submitted with the claim.

Due to accounting policies, expenses incurred on registration and travel can only be reimbursed after the trainee has attended the conference. Room and board charges are not reimbursable.
Applicants are required to submit the originals of the conference/course fee receipts. Faxes and photocopies are not acceptable as proof of payment.
The Academic Advisor will be able to provide trainees with additional information on matters related to conference participation.
