The Medical Learning Resource Center of the Institute possesses a postgraduate medical library and offers an electronic library service. These serve health professionals attached to the University and hospitals in Kuwait, as well as those at other institutions in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

Central Medical Library and other Hospital Libraries

The Central Medical Library is attached to KIMS, and acts as the central acquisition and distribution agency. It also functions as the apex body of the MEDLINE Network. The library provides training in medical information technology, and looks after the other library needs of the medical scientists in Kuwait. It has a collection of over 5300 books and subscribes to 550 periodicals.Those serving in the Ministry of Health have access to the latest information in the field of Medicine via this material and the MEDLINE Network.

Besides maintaining its own library facilities, the Library offers the following services:

  • Obtaining books and periodicals to be distributed to the various hospital and departmental libraries
  • Training the members of the staff who are appointed to the peripheral libraries in Medical Library Techniques
  • Visiting the hospital and departmental libraries to support and guide the local librarians
  • Assisting in maintaining the MEDLINE Network

The Library is open from 8 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 8 pm for users.

Books, periodicals and workstations for the MEDLINE Network, provided by the Central Medical Library, are also available in the libraries of the following major Hospitals:

  • Al Amiri Hospital
  • Al Jahra Hospital
  • Al Razi Hospital
  • Al Sabah Hospital
  • Farwania Hospital
  • Ibn Sina Hospital
  • KCCC Hospital
  • Maternity Hospital
  • Psychiatry Hospital

In addition to the above, access to the MEDLINE facility is available in the following Centers:

  • Blood Bank
  • Drug Control Center
  • Health Research Department
  • Hospital for Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation

In addition to the abstracting services provided by the MEDLINE, full texts of articles from 83 periodicals are also included in our collection. The CD ROM database is located in the Central Medical Library, and is connected to the various Hospitals through the Network. It is based on the the OVID System of software.

The Medical Illustration Unit of KIMS provides services in a variety of categories of media for teaching and research activities.
