The faculty of Public
Health is expected to accomplish the following objectives:

Working under the umbrella of KIMS and through the direction of Secretary
General, KIMS, identifying the training needs of health care professionals
as they pertain to the broad area of Public Health.

Undertaking
systematic assessment of curricular needs in relation to the Public
Health domain.

Developing
and offering workshops, seminars and lectures to impart state-of-the-art
information to Public Health practitioners.

Assisting
the Health Sciences Centre, Kuwait University, in developing and managing
a Masters in Public Health programme, throough the Faculty of Medicine.

Identifying
research gaps as they pertain to Public Health and working through
appropriate modalities, for designing and conducting the needed research.

Based
on curricular need assessment, evaluative research and experience
surveys offering recommendatio to KIMS, and therefore the Ministry
of Health to improve the Public Health of the State of Kuwait.
Curricular
Programme
The Faculty of Public
Health, as one of the constituents faculties, is responsible for providing
the requisite education, mostly in the form of Continuing Medical Education/Continuing
Professional Development. In this respect, the faculty develops educational
programmes at the end of each academic year for the next academic year
and various endeavours in the form of workshops, seminars and special
courses are organised.
The proposed curricular
endeavours are announced generally through Kuwait Medical Association
Journal and through flyers and applications for registration in the workshop/seminars/courses
are invited. The Faculty has a committee comprising specific faculty members
representing pertinent discipline(s) in which the endeavour is planned.
This committee selects the requisite number out of the applicants' pool.
The major criteria for selection relates to the following:
- Relevance of the
proposed course/workshop to applicant's professional responsibilities.
- Relative merit
of an applicant in terms of academic qualification and experience.
- The optimal number
of participants which is decided by the instructor(s).
The bulk of Faculty's
continuing education is managed by local professionals, concerned Faculty
members and other professionals within the Health Sciences Centre or the
Ministry of Health. However, at times internationally recognized experts
in specific areas are invited as reesource professionals.

Diploma
in Public Health
This one and a half
year academic program
is offered by the Faculty of Public Health (FoPH). The "problem-based
learning" is designed to provide training to policy-makers, administrators
and care providers and thereby improve their capabilities and capacity
to provide affordable quality care. Upon successful completion of the
program, the participants shall be awarded a diploma in Public Health
(Dip. P H) which is masters equivalent.
